for Evonne Kakos), Teresa Klimkiewicz
Absent: Carter Brown, Mike Assenmacher
Minutes from the previous meeting of May 30, 2000 were not read as a copy of
the minutes was not available. It was agreed by all present that both the May 30th
and June 29th minutes would be read at the next scheduled meeting
and approved at that time.
Meeting began by Dave Tillman (DT) with a recap of the Edison Street Sale district
booth profits. The district profited $701 through the sale of baked goods, FHHD
merchandise, and sale of raffle tickets. The winner will be announced in the July
edition of the FHHD Newsletter.
DT stated that a volunteer was needed to take over FHHD merchandise ordering
and sales from Laura Hamilton due to her growing family and personal commitments.
Sylvia Tillman agreed to be the new district merchandiser.
Teresa Klimkiewicz (TK) advised that there was VERY little response from the
district at large regarding the proposed Home and Garden Tour tentatively scheduled
for August 6th. Only two homes were volunteered by June 15th.
It was agreed by the Board that the FHHD would once again host a Holiday Home Tour,
scheduled for Sunday, December 3, 2000. A request for homes (district-wide instead
of limited to one or two streets) will be placed in the next edition of the FHHD
Newsletter.
DT reviewed the situation surrounding the district welcome signs. A friend of
Sylvia Tillman who is an attorney will be crafting a letter during the week of July
3, 2000, requesting the return of the sign mold and/or the money which was forwarded
upfront for expenses. Further, it was stated that John Tanner (attorney with City
of Dearborn) offered to help secure the signs as the City of Dearborn has a department
that manufactures such signs in wood or plastic. DT to contact John Tanner to follow
up with this lead.
DT requested an amendment to the FHHD Board of Directors by-laws, requiring 2/3
majority on ANY district expense on a SINGLE item over $500. All present agreed
to that an amendment was necessary. Scott Smith (SS) to draft by-law amendment for
Board approval at next meeting.
SS suggested pursuing hosting a district-wide Halloween party for neighborhood
children at Duval School (suggested by John Tanner as a possible venue). It was
further suggested that a magician be hired to work. Other suggestions for entertainment
included bobbing for apples, a Haunted House, movies, awards for best costumes,
etc. An announcement for an amateur magician from the district will be placed in
the FHHD Newsletter. Possible date for event: Saturday, October 28, 2000.
It was agreed by all present that the box containing the gazebo must be opened
before publicly offering it for sale. SS offered to inspect the contents and report
back with its condition.
An FHHD neighbor notified DT that there is a City of Dearborn amendment (6-43200),
which has set aside funds for the manufacture and installation of welcome signs
for the Springwells Park Neighborhood Association. The FHHD Board agreed that this
should also be offered to the FHHD. SS to contact John Tanner for further information.
DT advised that the Park Street Park Clean-Up was a success - - approximately
20-30 people volunteered to clean and bundle the debris for pick up by the City
of Dearborn Sanitation Department. DT further stated that he personally called the
Sanitation Department and thanked them for their service. It was further stated
that FHHD neighbor, Bill Turbett, has been instrumental in maintaining and upgrading
the planting beds at the park, including some naturalizing of plants at the back
of the property. Bill has requested installation of a compost pile at the NW corner
of the park. The Board agreed to allow this, but with Mr. Mike McGinty's approval
(his property is adjacent to the NW corner of the park) and providing that the compost
pile does not create any offensive odors. It was further stated that another FHHD
neighbor would like to develop a Children's Garden in a small bed at the park. The
Board also agreed this to. Janet Kuras will be the contact person, and interest
will be generated with an item in the FHHD Newsletter next spring.
SS advised that a status on the second order of bricks for the Park Street Park
was needed. SS will make contact with Bill O'Reilly (who originally ordered the
bricks) and will report to the Board at the next scheduled meeting.
It was suggested that a representative of the FHHD Board of Directors be present
at the City of Dearborn Council meetings. Board members would take turns attending
on a rotating basis alphabetically by last name. TK to obtain Council meeting schedule
and develop alpha list for distribution.
DT suggested securing a speaker for the FHHD Fall Meeting in October 2000, and
suggested a representative of Cedar Sales, LaSalle, Michigan. DT to contact Cedar
Sales to generate interest.
No other business was tabled. Meeting adjourned at 9:20pm.
