Discussions on Table:
Mike Assenmacher gave a brief Treasurer report. The FHHD tent sales at the Edison Street Sale brought $510 from donations of baked goods, district merchandise sales, and raffle ticket sales. Mike also stated that the FHHD website has been renewed.
New district merchandise was discussed. Such items as stationery, notecards, Christmas cards, and wax seals were tabled as potential items. An inventory of current merchandise is needed. Tom Kakos offered that he has a relative who could do custom embroidery. It was decided that the Board needs to know what merchandise we have, and then decide what items we want to purchase.
It was decided that Barb Smith will once again be the FHHD newsletter editor. Barb also gave an overview of the FHHD photos from the Greenfield Village archives. She has offered to give a presentation at the district’s Fall Meeting. There was a suggestion that copies of the photos could be ordered from the district as a fundraiser.
It was suggested that Mike Skinner (former FHHD resident – Nona) be contacted as a speaker for the Fall Meeting. Tentatively, the Fall Meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at 7:30pm at the Dearborn Baptist Church (depending on church availability). Scott Smith to reserve church.
There was a discussion surrounding an 85th anniversary celebration for the district in 2004. Suggestions were made that included a district-wide Fall Festival, collecting oral histories, and blocking off streets to hold parties. This topic will be revisited.
Scott Smith stated that Joe Hallissey (Nona) requested to speak at the district Fall Meeting on school board mileages. It was decided that the meetings would not be used for political purposes, and the request will be declined.
The district-wide Pumpkin Carving Contest was scheduled for Tuesday, October 30, 2001 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm for judging. It was agreed that the Board of Directors will be the judges for the contest. Scott Smith suggested that the FHHD serve cider, coffee, and donuts from one of the district tents to increase participation in district events. The tent will be centrally located in the district (site to be determined).
Further discussions centered on a district-wide Halloween Party to include costume contests, bobbing for apples, etc. It was decided that planning this party will be tabled for 2002.
Scott Smith asked for an update on the district sign and Park Street Park benches. Teresa Klimkiewicz offered that the sign has been repaired, and that the detail painting should be completed by September 1, 2001. The benches should be completed by that time also.
It was agreed that the gazebo will be built at the Park Street Park if no one purchases it from the district by September. The date for construction was set for Saturday, September 9, 2001 unless it has been sold by that date. Tom Kakos stated that he may know someone who would be interested in purchasing the kit. The price was set at $750.
It was discussed and agreed that the FHHD will cut its losses on the district corner signs and not pursue the person in California who was to do the work. Local resources for signs will be looked into. It was decided that the district would wait until after the Home Tour in December to purchase the signs. Tom Kakos may know of a resource to get the signs pressed.
Adjournment:
Meeting was adjourned by Scott Smith at 9:00pm on Wednesday, July 18, 2001.
