Pumpkin
Carving
Contest!!

Halloween Neighborhood Stroll

Take a stroll through the district, and check out the creative jack-o-lanterns that your neighbors have on display during the pumpkin carving contest.

The stroll will take place starting at dusk on Sunday, October 27.

After you have looked at the jack-o-lanterns, meet with your neighbors and take the chill off at the warming station under the district tent at 22425 Edison (thank you to Darcy & Perry Edgell and their family for letting us use their front yard!).

There will be hot apple cider and other treats at the warming station.

The weather is turning colder, and the leaves are turning beautiful colors. - It must be time for the FHHD Pumpkin Carving Contest!

Have  your  jack-o-lanterns  lit  from
dusk until 9 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27.

The judges will be down each street to pick their favorites.  There will be prizes for the top 3 jack-o-lanterns.  The prizes will be gift certificates to Toys ‘R’ Us, Mongolian Barbeque or Merchant’s Warehouse (winner’s pick) of $30, $20 and $10.

Last year we were a little late in announcing the winners at the Neighborhood Stroll.  We are trying to get out earlier and hope to announce the winners at the Stroll tent by 8:30 or 9:00 p.m.

   GOOD LUCK !!

Duvall School Spook-ghetti Dinner

Join your neighbors at Duvall’s Spook-ghetti dinner & raffle fundraiser, and get a plate of steaming  hot  spook-ghetti  ( also known as spaghetti ).   The  dinner  and  raffle  are  on

The cost is $3 per person, and little goblins aged 2 years or less are free.  Think about chipping in an extra dollar for the school!  Wear your Halloween costume if you have one

Hope to see you there!!

Odds and Ends

There will be a fall district meeting in November.  A newsletter will be coming soon with the date.

*       Pumpkin carving contest winners will also be announced in the next newsletter.

Have a Safe Halloween!

As home owners, we can help make our district safer for trick-or-treaters this Halloween:
·    Clear front yard and walkways of anything that could be tripped over (hoses, flower pots, etc.)
·    Keep walkways, stairs and home well lighted.
·    If you use candles, keep the jack-o-lanterns out of the path that kids will be using
·    Keep open flames away from flags, cornstalks, hay bales and other decorations.

It is easy for kids to get excited doing their trick-or-treating.  Help them remember to:
·    Make sure costumes don't drag on the ground, and that shoes are not unstable.
·    It is safer to use face paint than wearing a mask.

·    If your child carries swords, knives or other props, make sure they are flexible and bend.

·    If your child wears a mask, make sure they know to take it off before crossing the street.
·    Make sure children know to cross at corners, and never between parked cars.
·    Kids should watch as they cross driveways on the sidewalks for cars backing up.
·    Stay in neighborhoods you know, and don’t cut across yards and up into driveways.
·    Carry flashlights, and only go to houses that have their outdoor lights on.
·    Explain to your child the difference between tricks and vandalism.
·    Tell your child not to go into strangers’ houses, and not to go anywhere with a stranger -
(Adults should ask other adults for help; they should not be asking children.)

·    Make sure your kids have something to eat before they go, and remind them not to eat
anything until you have looked at it and inspected the wrappers.

·    Trick-or-Treaters:  Remember to say ‘Thank you’!
