Spring 2001 District Meeting

The Spring 2001 Ford Homes Historic District meeting will be held Thursday, April 26th at 7:00pm in the multi-purpose room of the First Baptist Church located at Nowlin and Beech.  Please join us to learn more about what’s been going on in the neighborhood, and what’s coming up in the near future.  Three seats on the district board of offices will be up for election.  Won’t you join us?  We’d love to meet you!

Holiday Home Tour Update

As you know, we did not host the tour last year as we simply didn't get the volunteers we needed.  However, things are looking up!  We currently have four homes for the tour, and could use several more!  The tour is planned for Sunday, December 2, 2001.  Mark your calendars!  If you have any questions about participating or volunteering, please contact Sylvia Tillman at (313) 278-4055 or Teresa Klimkiewicz at (313) 563-2457.

In Sympathy

We were saddened to learn of the passing of a long-time district resident, Janet Westcott (Nona).  The Westcott family asked that we publish the following:

“On behalf of Janet Westcott (1927-2000), her husband, Donald, and her three children, Sue, Peter and Jeremy would like to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to the many friends who came to pay their respects at our Open House on January 6, 2001.  It was held at the family home on Nona.  All of us were amazed at the outpouring of friends.  Further, we thank the many neighbors and other friends and relatives who contributed to COTS (Coalition of Temporary Shelter) in Detroit.  This has long been one of the family’s favorite charities.  Totally, over $800 was forwarded to them which will do much to provide comfort to those less fortunate.  Again, a heartfelt thank you to all.”

- The Westcott family

The FHHD wishes to extend its deepest sympathy to the Westcott family.

The Easter Bunny is Coming!

The Second Annual FHHD Easter Egg Hunt will be held Saturday, April 14th at 10:00 am at the Duvall Elementary School at Beech and Military.  Bring your kids, and a basket to carry their stash, to the playground to join in the fun!  Kids will be divided into age groups (0-4, 5-8, and 9-12…), then the hunt will begin.  Candy has been generously donated by the City of Dearborn.  The district will donate additional candy and “grand prizes” – one per age group.  Hope to see you there – rain OR shine!

New to the Neighborhood?

If you are a new neighbor, or know someone who is, please contact Barb Smith at 730-2174 or bsmith@fordhomes.org.  The FHHD Welcoming Committee has a welcoming packet and free gift for you!

Regretfully, due to the ever-increasing demands on her time, Barb Smith must resign from the Welcoming Committee.  If you would be interesting in volunteering to welcome our new neighbors to the Ford Homes Historic District, then please contact Barb to volunteer.

Miscellaneous

¨        We are looking for volunteers to help with a Spring clean-up of the Park St. Park and the Military Street medians.  The clean will be held on Sunday, April 22nd beginning at 10:00am.  Please bring your gardening tools and brooms!

¨        The Edison Street Sale is scheduled for Saturday, June 2nd (rain date - Sunday, June 3rd).  The district needs a front lawn to setup the merchandise and raffle ticket sale tent.  If we can use your lawn, please call Dave Tillman at (313) 278-4055.

¨        Wanna buy a t-shirt, mug, or sweatshirt?  Call Sylvia Tillman at (313) 278-4055.  We have lots of merchandise that we’d like to move so we can order new items…  I’m sure Sylvia will give you a great deal!
